Our Lady of Fatima is one of the most widely venerated Marian titles in the Catholic world. According to the accounts of three shepherd children, Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto, the Virgin Mary appeared to them in Cova da Iria, near Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.
The children reported seeing the Virgin on the 13th day of six consecutive months, from May to October. They described her as asking them to pray the Rosary for peace and for the conversion of hearts. On 13 October, a large crowd gathered at the site, an event remembered in the tradition of Fatima as the "Miracle of the Sun".
Today, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima welcomes pilgrims from around the world. Her message is especially associated with prayer, peace, and hope. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima is celebrated on 13 May, the anniversary of the first reported apparition.
O Most Holy Virgin, You appeared repeatedly to the children; I too would like to see You, hear Your voice, and say to You: My Mother, lead me to Heaven. Trusting in Your love, I ask You to obtain for me from Your Son Jesus a living faith, understanding to know and love Him, patience and grace to serve Him and my brothers and sisters, and one day to be able to be united with You there in Heaven. Amen.
